‘Craig Wright Is Not Satoshi Nakamoto’: Drama Inspires Bitcoin Banger

Australian computer scientist Craig Wright has long claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the anonymous creator of Bitcoin. Despite his numerous attempts to convince the world, and even the courts of law, of his identity, he has been largely unsuccessful. Now, his years-long saga has inspired a song called “Craig Wright Is Not Satoshi” by musician Jonathan Mann.

Mann, also known as the “Song-a-Day” man, holds the Guinness World Record for most consecutive days spent writing a song. He has written and recorded a new song every day for the past 15 years. In recent years, Mann has been selling these daily songs as non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

His latest song, released on Tuesday, focuses on Craig Wright’s disputed claims to the Bitcoin legacy. The song repeats the chorus “Craig Wright is not Satoshi” six times, with an upbeat refrain of “Craig Wright is a liar.” It was also available for purchase as a single-edition NFT. After four bids, the song was auctioned off for 0.12 ETH, equivalent to just over $198 at the time of writing.

Craig Wright’s claims have resurfaced recently with the reappearance of the Twitter account @satoshi, which posted for the first time in five years. Industry leaders, including Christian Ager-Hanssen, former CEO of nChain, Wright’s blockchain company, condemned the post as another attempt by Wright to imitate the real Satoshi.

Ager-Hanssen, who resigned as nChain’s CEO over the weekend, claimed to have seen evidence that Wright had manipulated documents to create a false impression of being Bitcoin’s creator. Despite his assertions, Wright has never been able to produce the private keys to Satoshi’s Bitcoin address, the most concrete evidence for his claims.

Mann’s song touches on these recent developments, highlighting the lack of evidence for Wright’s identity as Satoshi. In one of the verses, he sings, “Just because he has the handle, doesn’t mean he is Satoshi. He’s just some Australian guy who’s probably gonna sue me.”

The song by Jonathan Mann adds another layer to the ongoing saga of Craig Wright’s claim to be Satoshi Nakamoto. With the music and catchy lyrics, it continues the public discourse surrounding Wright’s contentious assertion and keeps the debate alive in a creative manner.
