Pennsylvania State Police reports

Pennsylvania State Police recently reported several incidents in the Media station area. These incidents include DUI arrests, retail theft, hit and run, a bitcoin scam, fleeing from a traffic stop, and another retail theft. In addition to these incidents, there were also reports from the Avondale, Chester County station, which involved theft and extortion.

On September 19th, troopers stopped a 1997 Suburban on Interstate 95 north in Ridley Township. The operator, a 35-year-old man from Wilmington, was arrested for driving under the influence, as well as possessing controlled substances and paraphernalia. This incident highlights the ongoing issue of impaired driving and the need for law enforcement to remain vigilant in identifying and apprehending individuals who endanger others on the road.

Another incident involved a retail theft at Kohl’s in Granite Run on September 18th. Troopers responded to a report of $323 worth of stolen clothing. They found the suspect, a 26-year-old male, who also had a glass smoking pipe and multiple arrest warrants. He was taken into custody, addressing the theft and ensuring the suspect faces consequences for his actions.

A hit and run incident occurred on September 17th, where a vehicle struck a mailbox on East Old Baltimore Pike. Unfortunately, the driver fled the scene without taking responsibility for the damage caused. Hit and run cases can be frustrating for victims, and it is crucial for witnesses or individuals with relevant information to come forward to aid law enforcement in apprehending those responsible.

On September 5th, troopers responded to a bitcoin scam in the Concord area. A 67-year-old woman was scammed by someone on the phone into sending $2,700 in bitcoin through a bitcoin ATM. This incident highlights the importance of remaining vigilant when it comes to financial transactions, especially involving unfamiliar individuals or organizations. It is crucial to verify the legitimacy of any requests for money or personal information to avoid falling victim to scams.

Furthermore, on August 19th, troopers initiated a traffic stop on a 2003 Honda on Interstate 95. The vehicle fled at high speed and eventually crashed. Although the occupants initially escaped, law enforcement apprehended a 21-year-old man from Wilmington, who was found in possession of marijuana. This incident emphasizes the dangers of fleeing from law enforcement and the consequences individuals may face if caught.

Moving on to reports from the Avondale station, a theft occurred on September 29th. A 63-year-old man reported that two individuals broke into his coop and stole 37 out of his 41 racing pigeons, which were valued at $150,000. This incident highlights the need for individuals to secure their property adequately and consider additional security measures to deter potential thieves.

Another incident involving extortion occurred on September 25th. An East Nottingham man was contacted by unknown subjects via WhatsApp, pretending to be from the Chicago police. He was threatened with the release of alleged nude photographs unless he wired money. The victim ended up sending approximately $700. This incident underscores the importance of exercising caution and verifying the identity of individuals before sharing any personal or sensitive information online.
