With a purpose of addressing the technical challenges of tomorrow, Christopher Newport College has launched the Faculty of Engineering and Computing (SEC).
The brand new SEC, which formally opened Oct 4, 2024, builds on the sturdy basis of its predecessor, the previous Division of Physics, Laptop Science and Engineering. It integrates physics, engineering, laptop science, cybersecurity, and data science to create an inspiring, inclusive, and interdisciplinary atmosphere of excellence in instructing and analysis.
“The Faculty of Engineering and Computing is residence to analysis that creates modern options to a number of the world’s best challenges and it’s residence to college students who need a rigorous technical schooling that prepares them for careers throughout many fields, together with some not but imagined,” stated Head of Faculty Dr. Anton Riedl, affiliate professor {of electrical} and laptop engineering. Riedl beforehand served as chair of the Division of Physics, Laptop Science and Engineering.
SEC’s formation was permitted by the College’s Board of Guests at its April 2024 assembly. Board members famous the formation of the SEC will facilitate engagement with exterior business companions and enhance responsiveness to business academic wants.
“The newly permitted Faculty of Engineering and Computing creates new alternatives for college students that leverage the strengths of CNU’s excellent engineering and science college,” stated Dr. Robert Hodson, chair of SEC’s Business Advisory Board. Hodson serves as Technical Fellow for Avionics on the NASA Engineering and Security Middle.
The SEC is briefly housed in Luter Corridor, however most of the SEC’s college, labs and school rooms can be positioned within the Science and Engineering Research Center that’s now underneath building and is slated to open in 2026.
