Throne and Liberty publisher Amazon Games is warning players about an unintended strategy in Castle Siege events, before the PvP mode has even been added to the MMO. These colossal server-wide showdowns will pit guilds against each other in long conflicts, and they’re supposed to incentivize working with your teammates to emerge with control of the game’s castles. That said, it looks like the attackers are going to start with an advantage, so Amazon hopes sharing their strategy ahead of time can help defenders properly prepare.
In Throne and Liberty, Castle Sieges are massive battles fought between guilds. Teams are either attacking or defending the huge forts and choosing to use force, sneak, or utilize towering golems to achieve victory. These large-scale MMO battles are meant to be like a tense game of chess, but Amazon already fears that an attacker strategy might ruin it for everyone else.
“We are aware of a tactic attackers may use during the upcoming Castle Sieges on [Sunday November 17] that allows attackers to access the inner courtyards earlier than intended. An attacker using this approach travels across rooftops along the western edge of the outer courtyard and eventually leaps over the wall into the inner courtyard,” the official Throne and Liberty game status account writes.
“This is not an intentional gameplay component so we wanted to create awareness about its existence so defenders can prepare appropriately. The attackers who may use this method are vulnerable to PvP throughout their infiltration pattern. We plan to prevent this from happening in future updates, thanks for your understanding.”
While you might think it’s odd for the official Throne and Liberty account to explain this tactic before Castle Sieges even start, it actually makes sense. I imagine Amazon assumes that players will figure this strategy out anyway, so it wants to get ahead of the problem and warn anyone defending a castle to come up with countermeasures.
These Castle Siege PvP are going to be absolutely huge, so I can already see a strategy like this becoming a major problem. Earlier this year globalization design manager Daniel Lafuente told us in a Throne and Liberty interview that they’ve seen a “a 1,700 player Castle Siege” in the Korean version of the game, so this game mode is definitely going to be hectic.
Castle Sieges aren’t the only part of the new MMO that debuted with problems, as the Throne and Liberty Queen Bellandir Arch Boss released with some major issues. Players were reporting constant disconnects, lag, and trouble with the shared loot drops straight away, but Amazon says it is scheduling “additional appearances” for any servers that ran into trouble.
Castle Siege events are coming to Throne and Liberty on Sunday November 17, and will start 5pm ET / 5pm PT / 4pm GMT local time.
