San Antonio International Airport debuts new parking technology

Travelers must first register via a QR code to be found at the airport.

SAN ANTONIO — A new partnership between tech company Metropolis and the San Antonio International Airport promises to make holiday travel seamless with the help of artificial intelligence, in a first-of-its-kind facility endeavor for the U.S.

Alex Israel, the CEO and cofounder of Metropolis, said it will make parking a more seamless experience for travelers, preventing them from “fumbling with tickets” or their credit cards.

“You sign up one time. Forty seconds, and then every time you come back to San Antonio International Airport, you just drive in,” Israel said. “The gate automatically vends, you get a text message.”

The Metropolis team stressed you have to register first so your license plate gets in the system. It’s a one-time registration process, initiated through a QR code to be found at the airport.

With similar technology, you can leave your luggage, get your boarding pass and bag tag in the self-parking garage. Your luggage will later go through TSA screening.

There’s no need to stress as you navigate the airport, if you register in advance of your holiday travel. Another service includes reserving parking spots.

“That will really shift both the vacation experience and the visitor experience for so many people,” Israel said.

If you register for Metropolis before Dec. 20, you’ll be eligible for a discount on reservations.
