Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have announced Virtua Fighter 5 REVO is coming to Steam, making it the first Virtua Fighter game to be released on PC in nearly 27 years. A new Virtua Fighter has finally been officially confirmed, and fans are overjoyed after spending nearly twenty years with its last major installment.
Virtua Fighter 5 REVO is an enhanced remaster of the original Virtua Fighter 5, with this port being based on 2021’s Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown. The REVO version aims to give fighting game players the most optimal experience on PC, such as rollback netcode for a smooth online experience, 60 FPS, and 4K resolution support. There will also be a number of balance adjustments coming to this version as well. While a release date hasn’t been announced yet, Sega confirms that Virtua Fighter 5 REVO will be launching on Steam this Winter.
When will Virtua Fighter 5 REVO be released on Steam?
The last Virtua Fighter game to release on PC was Virtua Fighter 2.1 back in 1997. The original Virtua Fighter 5 was first released in 2006 for arcades, before launching on PlayStation 3 in 2007. An updated version of Virtua Fighter 5 subtitled Final Showdown was released in the 2010s for Xbox and PS3, before the game got a complete remake using Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s Dragon Engine, released exclusively on PS4. A lot of Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown‘s changes and features will be retained for REVO, such as character customization and costumes.
When fans heard that Sega announced a new Virtua Fighter earlier in November, many were hoping it could be a brand-new mainline game instead of a port.
