The much-anticipated return to one of Gō Nagai‘s iconic universes is set to captivate audiences anew with the latest reveal from the Grendizer U anime team. Set to debut in 2024, the official website for the series thrilled fans by releasing the second promotional video, offering a closer look at the upcoming anime’s ensemble and intriguing mechanical designs. Additionally, the video premiered the TV version of the opening theme song, “Kaishin no Ichigeki” (Critical Hit) by renowned band Glay, setting a high-energy tone for the series.
Among the newly introduced cast members are Shinya Takahashi voicing Hayashi, the assistant to Doctor Umon, and Riho Sugiyama lending her voice to the character Yamada, a reserved female staff member at the series’ heart. Joining them are Hironori Kondō and Sora Tokui, who will portray the earnest Saeki and the rookie staff member Ōi, respectively. These characters expand the anime’s vibrant world, promising fans a diverse range of personalities to get behind.
The promotional materials did not stop at character revelations; fans were also treated to visuals of new Mechanics, including the aquatic-themed Aquadizer and Aqua Spacer, alongside the advanced Zeoradizer and Zeora Spacer. Additionally, the series will introduce menacing adversaries in the form of Enban-jū (Disc Beast) Domdom and Godagoda, and the celestial Vega Star, promising epic confrontations in true Grendizer tradition.
Heading the artistic charge is director Shun Kudō, with Tatsuto Higuchi on script duties and Arakimari complementing as the sub-character designer. The mechanical aesthetics, vital to any mecha series, are being overseen by Kō Inaba, AF_KURO, and Junichi Akutsu, ensuring the new additions honor the franchise’s rich heritage. The illustrious Mitsuo Fukuda steps in as chief director, with Gō Nagai himself as executive producer, underlying the series’ authenticity and connection to its roots. Ichiro Okouchi‘s involvement in series composition and Yoshiyuki Sadamoto‘s character design further solidify the anime’s potential for both critical and fan acclaim, with Kōhei Tanaka‘s musical talents set to enrich the auditory experience.
This new installment reinvigorates Gō Nagai‘s legendary Grendizer saga, which began in 1975 and has since been a staple of the mecha genre, inspiring countless adaptations and engaging fans across generations. The franchise, which experienced a notable resurgence with the announcement of the Grendizer Giga manga in 2014, continues to evolve, demonstrating the enduring appeal of Nagai’s creations.
With a launch date planned for July on TV Tokyo and BS TV Tokyo, Grendizer U is poised to not only revisit the cherished narrative of its predecessor but to propel it into new territories. As anticipation builds, the commitments of a talented crew and a promising new cast offer fans a glimpse into what could be the next significant chapter in the Grendizer legacy. Following the excitement generated by the recent game release “UFO Robot Grendizer: The Feast of the Wolves”, it’s clear that the franchise’s cultural footprint continues to expand, captivating new audiences while revering its historical roots.
