LG Electronics has recently made an exciting announcement that is set to enhance the audio experience of LG TV owners around the globe. The South Korean electronics giant has introduced support for spatial audio through Apple Music with Dolby Atmos on its smart TVs. This upgrade marks a significant milestone, as LG TVs are now the first to feature this immersive sound technology, offering an unprecedented listening experience right from the comfort of one’s living room.
The integration of spatial audio with Dolby Atmos into Apple Music on LG televisions began rolling out this week, and the feature is available on select models. According to LG, the compatibility extends to its premium OLED TVs and certain QNED models. This development is particularly noteworthy considering spatial audio was initially exclusive to Apple’s ecosystem of devices before being extended to Android users via the Apple Music app in 2021. LG’s webOS being the recipient of this feature highlights the company’s commitment to providing a rich, multi-dimensional sound experience to its users.
Spatial audio aims to deliver theater-like sound quality that envelopes the listener, creating a more immersive audio experience. Music tracks mixed in spatial audio with Dolby Atmos can offer depth, clarity, and a sense of space that standard stereo mixes may not provide. However, the quality of the spatial audio experience can vary depending on the mix of the content and the output system.
LG has designed this feature to work seamlessly with the built-in speakers of its TVs, as well as with Dolby Atmos-enabled LG soundbars. Owners of these soundbars will benefit from LG’s “loudness normalization algorithm,” which automatically adjusts the volume to ensure a balanced audio mix. For those LG TV models that do not inherently support Dolby Atmos, the company suggests the addition of a compatible soundbar to enable spatial audio support. Moreover, there is also provision for pairing AirPods with the TV for a personal spatial audio experience.
Updating the Apple Music app on eligible LG smart TVs is all that is required to access this feature. LG outlines that spatial audio through Apple Music will be available on all of its OLED models released from 2018 to 2024, in addition to QNED models Q90T and higher. For LG TVs not on this list, a 2024 LG soundbar is recommended to ensure compatibility.
In a promotional move to celebrate this integration, LG is offering a free three-month trial of Apple Music on its smart TVs dating back to 2018. The offer is accessible via the Apple Music app on LG TV models running webOS 4.0 or newer.
This strategic partnership between LG and Apple signifies a leap forward in enhancing digital entertainment experiences at home. By combining LG’s renowned picture quality with cutting-edge spatial audio technology, users can enjoy a richer, more immersive listening and viewing experience, setting a new standard for home entertainment systems.
