Throughout their careers, artists often have a few pivotal pieces in their portfolios that mark a turning point in their creative journey or personal growth. These pieces not only define their signature style but also shape the topics and themes they explore in their work.
In my own portfolio, I believe I have at least three such pivotal pieces. The first one is a digital collage that I created for an exhibition called “The Art of Gender and Sexuality.” This piece marked the beginning of my foray into the web3 space as a creator. Prior to that, I had mainly been an observer of digital art. This particular artwork not only introduced me to the world of digital collage but also influenced the themes and subjects that I began exploring in my work. It provoked a fascination with freedom of expression, sexuality, and the sensuality of the human body.
The second pivotal piece in my portfolio is not a single artwork but rather an entire project titled the “1mouth collection.” Consisting of 50 digital collages, this collection defined my signature style. Many people started recognizing that I was creating a series of similar works, and even though the collection as a whole may appear simpler compared to my other pieces, it possesses a distinct cohesive quality that sets it apart.
Lastly, my SuperRare genesis artwork, titled “Last Call,” marked a significant turning point in my career. With this piece, I delved into a different style of collage. Unlike previous works where I would incorporate my own narrative into the artwork, I focused on allowing viewers to find or create their own story based on the elements and inputs they perceive. It became a kind of immersive experience, akin to a role-playing game where viewers had the opportunity to construct their own stories based on the world within the artwork.
Moving on to my top three favorite NFT artists currently, I have to mention Slimesunday, Beeple, and DeeKay. However, among these three, Slimesunday has had the most profound influence on my own style and approach. I actively participated in his discord community and took part in many of his weekly challenges. In fact, I even won a few of them! Working on these challenges allowed me to refine my style and enhance my Photoshop skills while admiring Slimesunday’s incredible artwork. His mastery of textures became a particularly inspiring aspect for me, and I often attempted to emulate his techniques in my own work.
While Beeple and DeeKay may not have directly influenced my personal style, I find their art endlessly captivating. I could spend hours studying their intricate creations, appreciating the depth and complexity they bring to the NFT space.
Overall, these pivotal pieces in my portfolio and the influence of artists such as Slimesunday, Beeple, and DeeKay have played a crucial role in shaping my artistic journey. They have pushed me to explore new themes, refine my style, and strive for excellence in my craft. As an artist, these influences will continue to shape my future works while also empowering me to forge my own unique path within the NFT community.
