Blk Dnm, a Swedish American fashion brand, is taking a step into the world of blockchain technology with its latest initiative. The company, which was acquired by blockchain technology company ChromaWay in June, is releasing a collection of leather jackets that are designed with blockchain-powered hardware and software.
The concept behind this project is to create “connected fashion,” combining the digital and physical aspects of the garments. Each jacket in the collection is designed with a chip that gives it a unique and recordable identity in the digital space. This allows the wearer to track the life cycle of the garment, including knowing who the previous owners were and providing an easy way to authenticate the item.
In addition to the digital features, the brand is also offering a “forever refund” on the jackets. The value of the garment will be based on how well the wearer took care of it, encouraging less wasteful consumer spending tendencies. Blk Dnm CEO Toni Collin believes that this initiative can help slow down the fast fashion trend and promote cherishing and investing in beautiful designs.
The collection includes 72 signature leather jackets designed in seven styles as part of Blk Dnm’s fall 2023 collection. The jackets will be released in four launches throughout October in New York, Stockholm, and Los Angeles, as well as on the brand’s website. Prices for the jackets range from $1,490 to $2,490.
This new initiative also introduces the Blk Dnm Society, a community where jacket owners can provide feedback on upcoming initiatives and launches. The brand aims to create a sense of community and collaboration with its customers.
Blk Dnm underwent a relaunch earlier this year as a luxury label, introducing a more elevated aesthetic under the creative direction of Jessy Heuvelink. The brand is currently sold at U.S. retailers like Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s.
As Blk Dnm ventures into the world of blockchain technology, it will be interesting to see how this new concept of “connected fashion” unfolds. The ability to digitally track the life cycle of a garment and authenticate items could revolutionize the fashion industry and change the way consumers interact with their clothing. It’s a bold move for Blk Dnm, and one that has the potential to shape the future of fashion.
