IBM and Pasqal to Advance Quantum-Centric Supercomputing with a Unified Framework

IBM and Pasqal have announced an enhanced collaboration to develop a unified programming model built on Qiskit, aiming to integrate quantum and classical computing resources for high-performance computing (HPC) workflows. The initiative will enable seamless interoperability between IBM’s quantum systems, Pasqal’s neutral-atom quantum processors, and classical hardware like CPUs and GPUs.

The project seeks to accelerate hybrid computing by allowing users to select the most suitable hardware for specific computational tasks. As part of this effort, Qiskit is being updated to enable Qiskit SDK users to program Pasqal’s analog neutral-atom QPUs, marking an essential step toward a cohesive software stack for quantum-centric supercomputing. This open-source integration aligns with both companies’ goals to foster adoption of quantum technologies within HPC environments.

Pasqal CEO Georges-Olivier Reymond highlighted the importance of this effort in advancing quantum development and enabling flexible hardware use. IBM’s Jay Gambetta emphasized the potential of a unified stack to redefine hybrid workflows, lowering technical barriers for developers and researchers.

The collaboration reflects both companies’ commitment to enabling practical quantum applications, addressing complex computational challenges, and advancing market adoption of quantum-enabled HPC solutions.
