The narrative of The Irregular at Magic High School began its life as a web novel by Tsutomu Sato, initially published on Shosetsuka ni Naro, before Dengeki Bunko took it to print as a light novel series in 2011. Since then, the series has expanded into manga adaptations of each arc and a sequel titled The Irregular at Magic High School: Magian Company, which began in 2020.

The franchise’s adaptation into anime began with the first season aired by studio MADHOUSE in the Spring of 2014. Although MADHOUSE produced the first season, 8-bit took over the production for the Visitor Arc sequel (season 2) in the Fall of 2020, the The Irregular at Magic High School: Reminiscence Arc aired on December 31st, 2021, and the series’ movie, The Girl Who Summons the Stars, in 2017. Additionally, a spin-off anime, The Honor at Magic High School, produced by studio CONNECT, aired throughout the Summer 2021 season.
