It’s quite simple, actually: this is the best book on phrasal verbs for learners of English at B2-C1 level I have ever seen. 

It’s user-friendly, clear, logically organized, and there are real examples to illustrate everything. As the author says in the introduction, jargon is kept to a minimum, so the focus is really on learning what the phrasal verbs tackled in the book mean and how they’re used, and there are great exercises at the end of every section to check your progress. If you’re looking for a book that will help you (finally!) get your head around phrasal verbs and how they work, look no further. I couldn’t recommend

From the Author

When I wrote
The Only Academic Phrasebook You’ll Ever Need in late 2016, I had no idea it would go on to sell almost 30,000 copies and become a best seller in five countries! So, encouraged by the success of my first Amazon book, in 2019, I embarked on a new self-publishing journey.

I’ve always felt that our profession makes phrasal verbs harder to learn than they actually are. Most books on phrasal verbs teach too many verbs, include too many meanings, and use too much terminology. No wonder most students end up so frustrated! So, drawing on my 30-year experience as teacher, teacher educator, and international author, I set out to write something completely fresh. “No point coming up with more of the same!” I kept telling myself. 

Now, looking at the finished book, I think “less is more” is the best way to describe its teaching philosophy. By focusing on only 100 high-frequency phrasal verbs, I was able to provide about 15 examples of each one, as well as a lot of useful information about the words and patterns that these verbs tend to attract in everyday use. 

As the author of this book, I want you to “feel” each phrasal verb,
really understand how it works, and use it confidently in real-life communication. This seems like an ambitious goal, I know, but it is one definitely worth pursuing. I am confident that
