Product Description First Class Lady [Explicit] by Monsterpuss About the Artist Monsterpuss was born out of the fiery cauldron of rock and mutual friends. The goal was to play out, make it an all-girl band with “no big egos,” and keep it fun. Lofty, but attainable, DC’s girl power-trio keeps the amps on 11 and their feet on the ground. Kiki Schneider (drums/backing vocals) spent winter 2001 rehearsing with Kiki and the Rockstars. They had a record-breaking show March 1st, 2001 at The Velvet Lounge (the bar ran out of beer!). It was to be the band’s first and last show. Ingrid Stack (guitarist/lead vocals) was in the audience and recalls telling Kiki’s co-worker, Nadine Blinn, that “the drummer is the strongest part of that band.” By April, news traveled quickly that Kiki and the Rockstars had broken up. Nadine suggested to both Kiki and Ingrid that they play together. Taking Nadine’s advice, Ingrid gave a copy of her demo to Kiki and immediately the two joined forces. Ashley Baker (bassist) was a regular at Monsterpuss shows before joining the group. When Jess Inda (original bass player) left to pursue law school Kiki and Ingrid approached Ashley. She enthusiastically joined with the statement “I wanna rock!” Her dedication and keen sense of style complete this dynamic trio. DC’s “hot chicks” AKA Monsterpuss took to the stage Sat., June 30th, at Velvet Lounge and have been playing regularly since. Fans & music critics have pointed out similarities to the Pretenders, PJ Harvey, Blondie, Hole, the Cure, and Sonic Youth. Ingrid (Washington, D.C., Pisces) began playing guitar at 16 and had her first DC gig at the Grog & Tankard in Georgetown. It wasn’t until her second band, Peyote Circus, did she play the historic 9:30 club and Black Cat, as well as Coney Island High in NYC. They released one self-titled album in May of 1999. Positive reviews from Mark Jenkins and Lou King did not mend the artistic differences. Ingrid returned to the studio in August 1999 to begin what is now the final product of First Class Lady. “I used to not care about being in a band,” Ingrid explains, “It was all about writing better songs. Making a better recording. Monsterpuss changed all that. I still have stage fright, but now I’m enjoying playing and singing to a live audience.” Her influences include Nirvana, Slant 6, the Doors, the Pixies, and Patti Smith. Kiki (Washington D.C., Capricorn) is no stranger to music. Her grandfather was a professional musician and she was always playing some sort of instrument, including clarinet, since she was 9. Kiki spent much of her pre-music career at Va. Tech posing as a Cracker Barrel waitress. Luckily, she came to her senses and her BA brought her back to DC. Her influences for her songwriting are Mary Prankster, Ani DiFranco, and Willie Nelson. Her drum influences include Social Distortion and Green Day. When asked about Monsterpuss she is quick to point that “MP makes me happy and I like how I feel I can really contribute to this band.” As a drummer she likes “playing because it gets out a lot of frustrations and I get to sit in the back and not have people make me nervous.” Ashley (Norman, OK, Virgo) grew up playing viola in her school orchestra. Her love for the alternative not only includes gourmet food and fashion, but the Smashing Pumpkins, the Cure, the Pixies, Jane’s Addiction, Foo Fighters, PJ Harvey, Luscious Jackson, Liz Phair and Hole. She is glad that “8 years in orchestra actually paid off for something. I’ve always loved the deep voice of the bass.” Ashley’s nomadic nature hopes that Monsterpuss will pay off in free travel.
