Product Description
(2-CD set) Originally released in 1988, this album marked one of the truly successful world fusion creations, which Rhythm Magazine said symbolizes “the birth of a new era in music”. It’s a direct, transcendent exchange between six acclaimed musicians from diverse cultures, including L. Shankar, Zakir Hussain, Nicky Skopelitis, Daniel Ponce, Aiyb Dieng and producer/bassist Bill Laswell. This CD is a true American melting pot of deeply tangled roots, merging East and West to create a new music soundscape. At it’s core, there’s Indian music, and somewhere underneath lies flashes of the slow rustic lope of American country music.
Review
To realize
Hear No Evil, bassist/super-producer Bill Laswell tapped a group of world-class musicians. The divergent virtuosity of such aces as violinist L Shankar, guitarist Nicky Skopelitis, and percussionist Aiyb Dieng blend seamlessly under the leader’s acute sense of direction.
Assassin hints of near-Eastern desolation á la Led Zeppelin’s
Kashmir, but most of the album follows the rustic grooves of
Lost Roads… the second coming of
Hear No Evil is all good… –Billboard Magazine
Hear No Evil is an amazing fusion of Indian percussion and drone with rustic American guitar. This is one of the few CDs that puts me into a true trance, where time dissolves and all my thoughts evaporate… I just want to sit and meditate and absorb this bliss. –Yoga Basics
