About the Author
Bill Jack as a boy grew up active and loving the outdoors in upstate New York near the Finger Lakes Region. After high school, he attended Greenville University in Greenville, Illinois. Upon graduating with a teaching degree in 1967, he was offered a teaching position in remote Alaska, where he remained for the next 30 years. While in Nome from 1982 to 1994, he and his wife Penny, raised and raced sled dogs. In 1991, Penny suggested to Bill that this was the year he should run the Iditarod. Penny and he now live in Anchorage today and enjoy five children, their husbands and wives and especially eleven grandchildren.
