About the Author

Kim Hamrock, widely known in the surf world as Danger Woman, caught her first wave at thirteen years old. It wasn’t until the age of sixteen when she started surfing seriously. Her competitive career didn’t begin until she was a month shy of her thirtieth birthday. At this point she was married with a family of three kids. Known for pushing the limits in the big wave arena, she raised the bar for the next generation of women surfers. With twelve U.S.A. championship titles, six West Coast championships, one East Coast championship and numerous other titles under her belt. Kim is truly a force to be reckoned with. At age 42 she became the 2002 Women’s World Longboard Surfing Champion, and in 2005 was inducted into the prestigious Surfing Walk of Fame. In June 2015 she was a participant in acquiring 2 new Guinness World Records for the most surfers to ride a surfboard (66 people) and the largest surf board (42 feet long). Kim has been interviewed on television and radio internationally, as well as being featured in major publications such as Sports Illustrated Magazine (August 16,1993). Also, Kim is a contributing writer for surfing instructional books. Furthermore, she has produced her own surfing instructional DVD, Safe Surfing with Danger Woman. In addition, she wrote the Water Wisdom column for Wahine Magazine (the first all women’s surfing magazine), and helped Carlos Davis (writer of Drop Dead Fred), with the rewrites for a full feature surfing comedy. Although now retired as a professional competitor, Kim continues to instruct and travel, sharing her passion for surfing with thousands of people throughout the world. She is a Master Surf Instructor and one of the founders of the National Surf School and Instructors Association (NSSIA). Lastly, has operated her own surf school since 1995. When not surfing, she spends her time working as an artist, musician and writer. This book documents her many adventures and modus operandi. Kim’s lifestyle continues to influence and inspire women surfers, reaching for their own dreams.
