It is not intended for use on any other metals or materials. Butter Yellow – Yellow 4A can change its shade depending on how the thickness of the anodizing surface and the duration of time in the dye bath. It can be a pale grayish yellow if you do a shorter anodizing cycle. For a longer duration in the anodizing bath and in the dye bath, Butter Yellow – Yellow 4A will look like rich, butter yellow. Make sure to seal with our MT-90 Nickel Acetate sealer directly after dye bath. Butter Yellow – Yellow 4A is RoHS compliant. Specs on Butter Yellow – Yellow 4A Concentration:The 80 mL bottle makes 7.6 L (2 gal.) pH – 5.3-6.2 Raise with ammonium hydroxide, lower with acetic acid. Temp: 120-140°F. Light Fastness: 5-6 (Lightfastness describes how resistant the dye is to fading when exposed to UV light. 1-8, 8 being exceptional and long lasting under UV light.) Time: 3-10 minutes depending on saturation preference. Anodizing is an electrochemical conversion process. Anodizing changes the outer surface of the aluminum. Anodized aluminum has different characteristics than raw aluminum. Some characteristics of anodized aluminum include durability and weight. (It’s lighter weight than stainless steel but the anodized surface provides a tough surface like steel.) The process of “anodization” creates a thick oxide layer. This thick oxide layer makes it hard, quite scratch resistant and improves its corrosion resistance. It is easier to clean than raw aluminum. Because of its porous nature, anodizing makes it possible to dye the aluminum many colors.
