Radio’s Global Voice: A Radio Journey Across 7 Continents

Radio’s Global Voices provides a fascinating two-part story of listening to exotic radio stations that use the shortwave spectrum to reach regional and global audiences. In Part I, a brief description of shortwave technology is provided along with descriptions of the types of stations that broadcast in these bands that lie between what we know as “AM Radio” and “FM Radio” on our car entertainment dials. The “Why” for this hobby and the author’s lifetime experiences interacting with shortwave station personalities from nearly 200 countries provide the background to understand why people are motivated to discover their world through radio. In Part II, the author shares the images of cards and letters that he received from these stations, supplemented with maps and geographic and historical notes that tell the story of a changing world in the second half of the 20th Century.
