“Spark City, the first book of the Spark City Cycle by Robert Power, tells the story of roguish and resourceful wanderer Erroh as he travels the world on a journey to attend the mysterious Culling in Spark City. In a land rife with violence, things are not always as they seem and Erroh must quickly grow into his own in order to face an impending threat.

A common flaw authors have when writing fantasy is being so focused on using dialogue to tell the story that each character becomes a walking exposition, spouting statement-of-facts in place of meaningful dialogue. Robert J Power manages to avoid this through well-crafted character interactions.

Spark City is heavy on action and it is in the battle and fight scenes where the author’s talent truly shines. To take a fight scene and turn it into an eloquent parable used to delve into character development and advance story progression is not an easy feat but Robert Power does it again and again.
