Spy missions, 1,000 lb. marlins and absinthe in the afternoon what this watch is made of. Recalling military timepieces of the 1940s, the Bimini is ready to take on your next adventure. Of all the literary greats who have existed in the world, perhaps there was none other more rugged, manly and adventurous than the man who inspired this timepiece. He was a Nobel-prize-winning author, war reporter, bullfighter and a sophisticated cocktail connoisseur. Those who knew him best called him ‘Papa’ and he was the quintessential Renaissance man. He lived (and drank) all over the world, and was often found manning the helm of his beloved 38-foot fishing boat, Pilar. He regularly fished in the waters of Key West, Marquesas Keys, and the Gulf Stream off the Cuban coast. On trips to the Bimini islands his fishing, drinking, and fighting exploits drew much attention and remain part of the history of the islands. In addition to fishing trips, during World War II, he used Pilar to search for German U-boats in the Caribbean waters. The adventurous author caught numerous record-breaking fish from Pilar. In 1935, he won every tournament in the Key West-Havana-Bimini triangle, competing against many notable sportsmen. Papa’s style was classic and simple, consisting of clean lines. He would have loved this watch, whether typing away while standing (as was his preferred method) or tacking Pilar around the coast of Cuba. Ink blue stitching on the distressed Italian leather band leaves a mark of distinction, much like the writer who always left an impression of some sort wherever he went. And a spilled cocktail or two means nothing to a watch that can withstand water to 50 meters.
