In 1992, the Three Gorges Dam project was voted at China’s National People’s Congress. (Nearly one-third, 866 delegates either voted against the bill or abstained). This was the only engineering project ever submitted to the Congress for approval.
The Communist Party’s propaganda machine cheered the decision, claiming the project would create more than a hundred of the “world’s firsts” In overall scale, installed capacity, technical sophistication, and so on. They predicted the project would bring enormous benefits to future generations and rejuvenate China as a nation.
This book describes the long debate around the project before it began and the terrible repercussions that occurred after construction began.
三峡大坝工程是1992年在中国全国人民代表大会上投票表决的项目（有866名代表投票反对或弃权，占总票数的三分之一），是历史上唯一一个提交人大表决的工程项目。
共产党的宣传机器极力吹捧该决议案，认为三峡工程将创造一百多个”世界首创”：在总体规模，装机容量，技术水平等方面，它将超越此前所有的大坝工程。 并预言这个水电项目将造福人类，为子孙后代带来巨大利益，振兴中华。
《三峡啊》一书介绍了三峡工程开始之前围绕着它的长时期论争，以及在建造之后产生的惨痛后果。
