He was Windham Hill’s “house bassist” for many years and forged close ties with many of the great artists on the label such as Michael Hedges and multi-instrumentalist Mike Marshall, and he has performed in concert halls around the world with musicians such as Alex Skolnick, Henry Kaiser, Thomas Dolby, and John Gorka. Manring has made two gold records, received Grammy and Bammie nominations, and was voted Bass Magazine’s bassist of the year in 1994. He created his own instantly identifiable sound, a remarkable feat for any musician, and it all began with this record, full of lovely bittersweet melodies and lustrous, warm low end.
