Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra will launch early next year with numerous upgrades over its predecessors, which could impact the price, an important factor in consumers’ purchase choice and interest.
The Galaxy S-series is a major driving force in Samsung’s global smartphone sales. Four years ago, Note devices shared this role but Samsung discontinued this unique and famous lineup.
Since then, the company built Note features on the S-series Ultra model. Subsequently, this flagship phone has received numerous upgrades. It reduced design curves, increased software support, and focused on performance.
The price associated with these models brings high-quality displays and with innovations, Samsung keeps on pushing new optimizations like low glare to improve viewing experience. On the other hand, Galaxy Ultra has high-definition camera quality, which competes with iPhones.
Technological advancements
Technological advancements sum up the price you pay for a flagship phone including the following parameters:
- Design and build quality
- Features
- After-sale service
Let’s get an early picture of the Galaxy S25U in these segments.
Design
The Galaxy S25 Ultra will get a design overhaul with all side flat frame. Samsung has been using this round-side design for a long time but the s25U will set a new direction for future devices.
The phone will continue of titanium material for a premium appearance and build quality. The design will be polished over the S24 Ultra. It will also give up sharp corners in favor of round edges and the overall device could look less bulky.
It will have an edge-to-edge display with slim bezels, which could look better than the previous flagship. Interestingly, new upgrades will make it identical to iPhones with some of its distinct features.
Features
The S25 Ultra will offer new AI features thanks to the new Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset with new AI NPU. This new chipset will also improve the performance (check here).
On the software side, One UI 7 will offer a new user interface including rich customizations and redesigned UI elements. S-Pen will also assist you in jotting down ideas with improved sensitivity and impression.
After-sale service
New premium Galaxy smartphones offer up to 7 years of software support and additional cost will bring you screen protection.
You can opt for Samsung Care+ for 2 years of premium benefits and a monthly subscription for drops, spills, mechanical breakdowns, theft and loss coverage, same-day replacement, and more.
These three aspects suggest that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will have major technological advantages over S24U.
Competition
Apple’s iPhone rules the premium device market including its recent releases despite high prices. In that case, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be a direct competition for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The situation may be different this time as they both have identical grounds in design, display, specifications, and software.
Price history
Samsung Galaxy S series specifications have evolved the most in the past few years but how about the prices? Let’s take a look at the starting price of the last four flagships:
Samsung Galaxy S24 Series
- S24 Ultra – $1,299
- S24 Plus – $999
- S24 – $799
Galaxy S23 Series
- S23 Ultra – $1,199
- S23 Plus – $999
- S23 – $799
Galaxy S22 Series
- S22 Ultra – $1,199
- S22 Plus – $999
- S22 – $799
Galaxy S21 Series
- S21 Ultra $1,199
- S21 Plus – $999
- S21 – $799
Starting prices for standard and Plus variants remained the same but the S24 Ultra received a $100 hike. That being said, the prices for higher memory also differ.
Recent iPhone Pro Prices
Now, let’s look at the last three top-end iPhones:
iPhone 16 Pro Series
- Pro – $999
- Pro Max – $1,199
iPhone 15 Pro series
- Pro – $999
- Pro Max – $1,199
iPhone 14 Pro series
- Pro – $999
- Pro Max – $1,099
The S24 Ultra costs $100 more than the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Adding $100 more would complicate the situation from consumers’ perspective, leading to $1,399.
Compared to iPhones, Samsung flagship prices deprecate within a year of launch. For example, S24 Ultra’s 256GB version is now on sale for less than $1,000 in the US. However, the price impacts the initial sales, which wear down after six months of unveiling.
Leaks and rumors
The biggest assumption is that Samsung won’t attempt a price increase for the Galaxy S25 lineup including the Ultra. A few rumors suggest an increase of $100 for the top-end model.
Final Thoughts
Samsung won’t change the standard and Plus prices but the new Ultra design upgrade raising doubts over its pricing.
That said, an increase to $1,399 would not be a good decision and open the door for alternative options including the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which is known for alluring consumers and it’ll be $200 lower than the upcoming Samsung device.
Therefore, we can expect Samsung to price the Galaxy S25 Ultra at $1,299 but only an official announcement would ease up these speculations.
