Satisfactory meets Starfield in Space Trash Scavenger, as it hits Steam 1.0

What’s the job market going to look like in a thousand years? Will we be cramped on dimly lit spaceships drifting through the abyss, doing our part in a utopia, or will the human race even be around? Out now in Steam 1.0, Space Trash Scavenger has an answer. It turns out we’ll be traveling the stars, turning old other-worldly junk into something salvageable and automating the process as we go. With a dash of Factorio, Satisfactory, and myriad Steam survival crafting games like Rust and Valheim, you can play the full launch of Space Trash Scavenger right now.

It’s the 31st century, and you’ve got the most thankless job in the universe. Employed by ScavCorp, you’re paid to build and pilot a Space Rig, which you use to find and repurpose cosmic debris from an ancient galactic war. This is Space Trash Scavenger, and you’ve got to wear many hats if you want to succeed.

While this automation and crafting game will be instantly familiar to any of you who have sunk hundreds of hours into perfecting industrial megastructures in Factorio and Satisfactory, Space Trash Scavenger does things a little differently. You’re in the stars, and that means all the asteroids, abandoned outposts, derelict spaceships, and even your own Space Rig have individual gravity fields. Luckily you’ve got a jetpack and grapple gun to get around.

There’s no up or down in space, so it’s entirely up to you to choose the layout of your base. While you’ll want to focus on scavenging and trading to keep the paychecks rolling in, don’t forget that you need to craft food, fuel, weapons, and upgrades to actually thrive on the job. Eventually, you’ll even get a warp drive and can use this to travel to other sectors – just like in Starfield.

1.0 is a huge moment for Space Trash Scavenger and developer SquarePlay Games, with a load of new features and mechanics added to the experience. The game’s newest biome and final quadrant is here, and it’s home to plenty of discoveries. You’ll find the new Research Vessel sector type to explore, and they’re filled with new types of trash and plenty of secrets. Space Trash Scavenger’s existing NPC and quest system has also been overhauled, with a “significant restructure” to some characters, additional narrative elements, and an optional ending (that’s clearly signposted) if you don’t want to explore the far reaches of space forever.

Then there’s the new creative mode which, just like in Minecraft, gives you infinite resources and helps you make whatever you can think of. All blueprints are unlocked and you have infinite fabricator resources, so you can build absolutely anything.

Space Trash Scavenger 1.0 also has a slew of more minor features and quality-of-life improvements like Steam achievements, indoor holomaps to help with navigation, improved ship procedural generation for interiors, and even new ultra rare trash (I never knew there could be such a thing).

Space Trash Scavenger is out now in 1.0 on Steam, and you can grab it at 33% off until Wednesday November 27 so expect to pay $13.39 / £10.04 until then. The game is available here.
