Starbucks Celebrates Pumpkin Spice Latte Season with NFT Collectibles
As the fall season sets in and the leaves begin to change color, coffee lovers across the world know that it’s time for the iconic Pumpkin Spice Latte to make its comeback. This year, Starbucks is celebrating the 20th anniversary of this fan-favorite beverage in a unique way – by offering NFT collectibles.
On Thursday, Starbucks will be releasing a series of Pumpkin Spice Latte digital stamps via Starbucks Odyssey, the company’s Web3 rewards and loyalty platform. These NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, will be sold in four varieties: Spiced, Whipped, Iced, and Steamed, representing the different qualities of the physical drinks.
What makes these NFTs special is that they will be sold through an open edition, meaning there is no limit to how many can be minted and sold within the sale time frame. The sale will run from Thursday, October 5, until Monday, October 9, with each NFT available for $20 apiece. In addition, buyers of all four NFT stamps will be provided with an undisclosed “opportunity.”
It’s important to note that only members of the Starbucks Odyssey platform will have access to purchase these NFTs. However, the artwork for the purchased NFTs will be revealed to all on October 10.
Starbucks chose to mint their NFTs on Polygon, an Ethereum scaling network. The company introduced Starbucks Odyssey in 2022 and launched it as a closed beta last December. While it remains in beta, Starbucks Rewards program members can join the waitlist for a chance to be part of the program.
Starbucks Odyssey was designed to reward loyal customers with unique perks and benefits beyond the traditional Rewards program. Users can earn points through the platform and use them to unlock virtual drink-making classes or even win a trip to a Starbucks coffee farm in Costa Rica. NFT marketplace Nifty Gateway powers Starbucks Odyssey, allowing for seamless integration of NFT collectibles.
This is not the first time Starbucks has dabbled in the world of NFTs. The company gave away free NFT stamps last year, some of which were resold for as much as $1,900 each on the secondary market. In March, Starbucks started selling premium NFT stamps, with the first drop offering collectibles priced at $100 each, which quickly sold out.
The intersection of coffee culture and blockchain technology through NFTs is an exciting development for Starbucks and its loyal customers. As the popularity of NFTs continues to grow, it wouldn’t be surprising to see other brands following suit and offering their own unique digital collectibles. In the meantime, pumpkin spice latte enthusiasts can add a touch of digital magic to their favorite fall beverage with Starbucks’ limited-edition NFT collectibles.
