Warner Music’s key web3 supporter departs after nearly 10 years

Warner Music Group’s Chief Digital Officer, Oana Ruxandra, has announced her departure from the label, stating that she is ready for a change and wants to explore her entrepreneurial spirit further. The decision came after discussions with CEO Robert Kyncl, although the specific details of those discussions remain undisclosed.

While it is unclear who will replace Ruxandra, she assured that Kyncl has plans for her successor and that an announcement will be made soon. Ruxandra leaves the firm after three years as a top-level executive at Warner Music Group.

During her time at the company, Ruxandra collaborated with Polygon Labs to launch a music accelerator program that aimed to fuel innovation at the intersection of web3 and music. She was also a vocal advocate for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and helped facilitate a collaboration between OpenSea, an NFT marketplace, and Warner Music Group to bolster artists’ presence in the web3 space and enhance their fan communities.

This departure marks a shift for Ruxandra, who first joined Warner Music Group in the early 2010s as part of the business development team. Four years later, she moved to Universal Music Group but returned to Warner Music in 2018 as the company’s top executive. In this capacity, Ruxandra spearheaded Warner Music’s foray into web3, NFTs, and gaming.

Ruxandra’s decision to leave Warner Music Group demonstrates her desire to explore new opportunities and embrace her entrepreneurial spirit. It will be interesting to see what ventures she pursues next and how her expertise in web3 and music will continue to shape the industry in the future.
