The world of cryptocurrency can be confusing and overwhelming for many people. The concepts and technologies behind cryptocurrencies are not always easy to grasp, which is why many individuals turn to Google to find answers to their burning questions. A recent study conducted by Marketplace Fairness sought to determine the most Googled cryptocurrency subjects nationwide and in each state. The results shed light on the specific topics that the country is most interested in understanding.
Unsurprisingly, the most popular query nationwide was “What is cryptocurrency?” This simple question received an average monthly search volume of 39,466. While this broad question was excluded from the study, it is worth noting that cryptocurrency is a digital or virtual form of currency that uses cryptography for security. It operates independently of any central authority, enabling secure, decentralized peer-to-peer transactions.
Moving beyond the basic definition of cryptocurrency, the study revealed the top five most queried subjects across America. Topping the list was “What is an NFT?” NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, are cryptographic assets on the blockchain. While closely related to cryptocurrencies, NFTs are unique and cannot be exchanged on a one-to-one basis like cryptocurrencies. This topic generated the highest monthly search volume of all questions analyzed, with 39,459 searches on average. Following closely behind was “What does NFT stand for?” with an average monthly search volume of 13,516.
The second highest level of curiosity was directed towards blockchain technology. The blockchain is a distributed and immutable digital ledger that records transactions across a network of computers, ensuring transparency, security, and trust in data integrity. Questions such as “What is the blockchain?” and “What is blockchain technology?” received average monthly search volumes of 26,283 and 5,285, respectively.
Interestingly, the question of how cryptocurrency actually works ranked third in terms of search interest. Cryptocurrency utilizes cryptographic techniques through a blockchain to secure and regulate the creation of new units of currency. Questions like “How does cryptocurrency work?” and “How cryptocurrency works” saw average monthly search volumes of 4,683 and 1,173.
The fourth most queried crypto term was mining. This process involves using specialized computers to solve complex mathematical puzzles, verifying and recording transactions on a blockchain. Miners are then rewarded with newly created cryptocurrency tokens. “What is cryptocurrency mining?” received the highest search volume in every state, with an average monthly volume of 6,725. Another related question, “How to mine cryptocurrency,” generated an average monthly search volume of 1,866.
Finally, decentralized finance, or DeFi, ranked as the fifth highest subject of interest. DeFi refers to blockchain-based financial applications and services that operate without traditional intermediaries such as banks. Users can lend, borrow, and trade directly within a decentralized ecosystem. “What is DeFi?” saw an average monthly search volume of 2,850.
These results provide a glimpse into the topics that people are most curious about when it comes to cryptocurrency. As the world of cryptocurrencies continues to evolve and grow, it is essential for individuals to educate themselves and stay informed. With the help of search engines like Google, finding answers to complex cryptocurrency questions has become more accessible than ever before.
